Repeat Prescriptions

How do I order my repeat prescription?

To ensure safety and eliminate any mistakes or misunderstanding, all prescriptions must be ordered in writing. We are unable to accept telephone requests for repeat medications as many drug names are difficult to pronounce and there are often drugs with similar names, which have completely different uses.

Please use the tear off slip attached to your computerised prescription, or complete a medication request form available at the reception desk. Request are accepted either by post, in person or by emailing the practice at admin.ashsurgery@nhs.net

Alternatively, you can order your repeat prescriptions on a smart phone through an NHS approved app.  Please ask at reception if you require any help in setting this up. Click this link to log in or register to order a repeat prescription online

For requests sent in the post, please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope if you wish for the prescription to be posted back to you and allow extra time for this.

Requests for repeat prescriptions over the phone are only accepted for housebound and vulnerable patients who are unable or too ill to come to the surgery.

When will my prescription be ready?

Repeat prescriptions are processed at the practice within 48 hours and sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. Requests received after 9am on Thursdays will not be available until the following Monday morning.  Please try to avoid running out of your medication by planning well ahead and be aware that it may take time for the pharmacy to prepare your prescription, especially if they do not have your medication in stock.

At regular intervals you may be asked to see a clinician for a medication review before a prescription is issued.

Emergency medication

If you completely run out of medication and need an emergency supply please speak to one of the clinical support team at the practice.  Your request will be assessed and processed by the emergency on-call doctor if it is deemed that missing the medication might cause harm. Otherwise your request will be processed in the normal manner.
